$150 million to make EVs more attainable to low-and-middle income Australians
The Government is helping more Australians buy cleaner and cheaper-to-run cars with discounted loans for electric vehicles (EVs). Backed by $150 million from the Clean Energy Finance Corporation (CEFC), the Commonwealth Bank is now offering low-interest EV loans for workers earning less than $100,000 a year, as well as essential workers like police officers, teachers, fire fighters and nurses. Minister for Climate Change and Energy Chris Bowen said 'Only the Government is making sure more Australians are able to get behind the wheels of cheaper to run cars and begin saving on their commutes.'

'The Federal Government is committed to ensuring the quality, integrity and sustainability of Australia's international education sector. Peter Dutton and the Opposition's efforts to increase migration and help dodgy education agents and dodgy providers will not succeed. Following the Opposition Party's decision to oppose international student caps, the Government will ensure international student numbers can be properly managed while making the system fairer through changes to visa processing prioritisation,' said Minister for Home Affairs Tony Burke, Minister for Education Jason Clare and Minister for Skills and Training Andrew Giles.

'The Federal Government's determination of specified jurisdictions for Australia's world leading Public Country by Country tax transparency regime has been published on the Federal Register of Legislation. Primary legislation to put in place a Public Country by Country reporting register passed Parliament on 29 November. That legislation set out the annual tax data that affected entities will be required to report from 1 July 2024. The Taxation Administration (Country by Country Reporting Jurisdictions) Determination 2024, sets out the jurisdictions for which an entity must publish disaggregated (country-level) information,' said Assistant Minister for Competition, Charities and Treasury Andrew Leigh.

'The State Government will commence a music festival-based pill testing trial in early 2025, to reduce risks and harms associated with illicit drug use. Illicit drugs remain illegal in NSW. The NSW Government reiterates that there will always be risks involved when consuming these substances and this announcement is not an endorsement of illicit drug use. However, the trial will help people make safer choices, will ensure they can speak to a health professional and it could save lives,' said Premier Chris Minns, Minister for Health Ryan Park and Minister for Police and Counter-terrorism, Yasmin Catley.
